Shooting stars

We trampled on the plants and then the air smelt like mint. We soon forgot the smell and were enchanted by the sky’s sights. She told me she saw a shooting star, but I was not as thrilled as I should have been – somehow I’d been numbed of its significance. Until I saw one myself and it dawned on me that I’d never really seen one before. Ask me then when I last saw a shooting star and I’d have thought for a second and realized that in fact my imagination had been deceiving me my entire life.

Things are not supposed to move so fast across the sky while so high up. That whole kinetic concept was new to me. What my imagination had created before was a measly static version. I am truly grateful to know the real thing.

But only three showed up, and I only saw two of them. I imagined that the two ran away from the mother shooting star and were desperate and lost. What happened to them when they disappeared from my sight? Were they getting farther and farther away from home? I could not dare to keep thinking about the fates of my two little shooting stars.
